The Kingdom of Bhutan

Located in the eastern edge of the Himalayas, Bhutan is a country about the size of Switzerland, bordering China to the north and India to the south. AArora Showcase founder Alan Arora first visited this beautiful country in 2007 and since then has been a regular visitor. Below are images from that initial trip.

The weaving tradition of Bhutan has existed since the 13th century and is primarily performed by women, who contribute a major portion of the labor and household income to their families. The main tool for the weaving is a loom, typically made from wood or bamboo, and, of course, the hands of the weaver. The textiles produced are renown for their intricate, unique patterns and vibrant colors.
